Guillermo del Toro to direct 'The Hobbit'29.04.2008 Variety reported that director Guillermo del Toro has signed on to direct two prequels to the 'Lord of the Rings' saga - 'The Hobbit', and its as of yet unnamed sequel taking place in the 60-year period between 'The Hobbit' and 'The Fellowship of the Ring' events. Guillermo del Toro will move to New Zealand for the next four years to direct both films, with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh acting as exec producers (and, probably, script writers.)
