GEQ Classic components use traditional proportional Q filters inspired by the renowned DN series 1/3 octave equalizers, which narrow the filter width as you increase a band's gain; GEQ Modern components utilize special Flat-Top filters, which eliminate the artifacts associated with band interaction, and provide perfect plateau and stair-stepped responses. Users can set band gains one-by-one, or draw their curve via touch-screen or mouse. Finally, GEQ's integrated real-time analyzer lets users compare the difference between two sources (more in this video). Native Instruments announces KOMPLETE 9 and KOMPLETE 9 ULTIMATE
Native Instruments announced the latest generation of its two industry-standard KOMPLETE software bundles. KOMPLETE 9 includes 33 instruments and effects with six new additions, including the brand-new MONARK monosynth, plus the completely re-designed BATTERY 4 drum sampler. KOMPLETE 9 ULTIMATE includes all 65 current KOMPLETE instruments and effects at the time of release and over 370 GB of content. The brand-new MONARK delivers the warm, organic sound of a classic analog monophonic synthesizer that has shaped four decades of popular music. Its smooth and natural sound is complimented by an intuitive, streamlined control panel that allows users to quickly dial in sounds and start creating music. Based on years of research, MONARK uses REAKTOR's powerful modular DSP framework to faithfully recreate the interaction of complex analog circuits, including the behavior of the filter when overloaded, filter and oscillator drift, and snappy envelopes that make stabbing melodic lines and even punchy electronic drum sounds easy to create. The sound has been fine-tuned by ear by MONARK's engineers to create a powerful mono synth with a level of richness and depth not previously found in software. KOMPLETE 9 is available for pre-order at a suggested retail price of $559 US / 499 EUR, KOMPLETE 9 ULTIMATE has an MSRP of $1099 US / 999 EUR. Updates for owners of KOMPLETE 2 through 8 are available from $149 US / 149 EUR. Expected in-store date is March 27, 2013. [source]
UAD v6.5 Software: Classics reborn
Universal Audio released software version 6.5 for its line of UAD-2 DSP Accelerator hardware or the Apollo High-Resolution Audio Interface. The new version contains software recreations of the classic Teletronix LA-2A and API 500 series EQ (API 550 and 560 models) hardware, as well as Softube Vintage Amp Room, Softube Bass Amp Room, and Softube Metal Amp Room plug-ins. UAD Software v6.5 also features a full 64-bit architecture support on both Windows and Mac OS X platforms. In 2001, UA set the standard for analog emulation with the original LA-2A electro-optical compressor plug-in. Today, advances in processing power and UA's own analog emulation experience have enabled the developers to redesign the LA-2A plug-ins with luxurious, obsessive detail. The new LA-2A Classic Leveler Collection painstakingly models the entire electronic path of three rare Teletronix units - "Silver," "Gray," and the original LA-2 unit. With all the transformer and tube goodness now onboard, these are must-have emulations of this iconic compressor - especially for tracking and mixing vocals. [source]
