Universal Audio and Softube announce Marshall Super Lead plug-in
The Marshall "Plexi" Super Lead plug-in -- the only Marshall-branded amplifier plug-in on the market -- comes exclusively to Apollo audio interfaces and the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform in May 2015, as a result of cooperation between Universal Audio and Softube. The 100-watt Marshall Super Lead Model 1959, commonly referred to as the "Plexi," is one of the world's most celebrated guitar amps. Softube worked with Marshall and recording engineer Tony Platt (AC/DC's Highway to Hell and Back in Black) to craft a faithful emulation of Marshall's own reference Super Lead Model 1959 amp, built in 1967 and captured using an era-correct 1960BHW speaker cabinet in Kore Studios, London. Free iZotope Ozone 6.1 update
With the free Ozone 6.1 update, iZotope is including powerful processing features and bringing back a popular feature from Ozone 5. New Ozone 6.1 features include Tube Limiting and Adaptive Release modes. Users can add an analog-type sound with the Maximizer's new Tube Limiting mode, which combines the warmth of final stage limiting with the ease and precision of digital maximizing. The resulting audio has a tube warmth while remaining competitively loud and appropriate for modern mastering. With a new algorithm inspired by tube hardware limiters like the Fairchild 670, the Tube Limiter adds a vintage sonic character to Ozone's maximizing algorithm. Adaptive Release helps users produce louder, clearer, and fuller masters. This mode for Ozone's Dynamics module intelligently automates the difficult task of finding the right release times. Based on customer feedback, iZotope has also brought back Module Presets, a highly requested feature from customers who owned previous versions of Ozone. Module Presets help users to experiment with different module settings. Users can more easily load and save settings for individual modules without affecting the settings of other modules. Other additions and enhancements to Ozone 6.1 include selectable segmentation loops, automatic track numbers on export, and sound quality improvements. The Ozone 6.1 update is free for existing Ozone 6 customers. For those who don't yet own Ozone, Ozone 6, Ozone 6 Advanced, and upgrades are on sale through April 9. [source]

New plug-ins from Waves Audio
Waves released several new audio plug-ins: Waves Signature Series Butch Vig Vocals, Waves dbx 160, and Waves H-Reverb. Waves also presented a new live multitrack recording software solution Waves Tracks Live. Faithfully recreating the influential rock producer's signature distorted vocals, the Waves Signature Series Butch Vig Vocals plug-in gives users the opportunity to work with the sound of rock royalty. The original dbx 160 compressor was used in almost every major recording in the late 1970s and throughout the 80s, and later models in the 160 series also became an industry standard. The plug-in utilizes advanced modeling technologies that result in authentic-sounding emulation in both Native and SoundGrid versions. It also features an M/S matrix, mix and noise controls, and a stereo component (the original hardware was mono only). Pixar Animation Studios releases RenderMan 20
Pixar released version 20 of its Academy Award-winning RenderMan software, introducing major innovations allowing cinematic quality imagery to be created more easily and faster than previously possible. Highlights include a game-changing noise reduction technology that directly addresses the problem of image artifacts associated with physically based ray tracers, massively reducing the time needed to deliver completed shots and images. RenderMan 20 also expands the creative choices available to artists and studios through numerous advances in usability including a physical camera, a Visualizer for navigating and inspecting large scenes interactively, expanded shader libraries and presets, and new volume rendering features. A new Marschner hair shader represents the first time Pixar has shipped shading technology specifically developed for use in its feature films, making available truly Pixar quality hair and fur. In addition, RenderMan's tradition of advanced customization is emphasized through a new light filter API. Rendering shots for dailies is also faster than ever with new enhancements to RenderMan's noted image checkpointing, allowing entire shots to be quickly previewed nearly immediately and at full resolution. RenderMan 20 is compatible with Mac OS 10.9, 10.8 and 10.7, Windows 8 and 7, and Linux glibc 2.12 or higher and gcc 4.4.5 and higher.
