Waves Audio ships the new BSS DPR-402 plug-in
Waves Audio shipped the new Waves BSS DPR-402 Compressor/Limiter/De-Esser plug-in. Long favored by audio engineers in studio, live and broadcast environments, the original BSS DPR-402 dynamics processor is known for delivering the punchy, explosive sound of countless rock, dance and hip-hop recordings since the 80s. Working in association with BSS Audio, Waves has now modeled this versatile hardware unit, bringing back its diverse functions and sounds, and adding new features for extra flexibility and ease of use. BSS DPR-402 can be used as a straightforward compressor, de-esser or limiter. However, it really shows its colors when these processes are combined, and when it is used to selectively process individual parts of the audio band while leaving the rest of the spectrum untouched. The limitless possibilities range from low-frequency expansion and narrow-band compression to general dynamic equalization for creating surprising enhancement effects. Waves has also added five features unique to the plug-in: an MS matrix to separately process the mid and the sides, a Mix control to balance the processed and unprocessed signal, a Noise control to add or remove the modeled inherent noise of the original unit, a Gain Reduction control, and an option for separate L/R metering. The plug-in is available now priced at $99 US, reduced from the regular $149 US. [source]
Waves Audio ships the Waves Abbey Road Reverb Plates plug-in
Waves Audio is now shipping the Waves Abbey Road Reverb Plates plug-in. Used most prominently in the '60s and '70s by pioneering bands, including the Beatles and Pink Floyd, Abbey Road Studios' original reverb plates -- four EMT 140 units -- were first installed in 1957 to complement the fixed reverberation times of the studios' echo chambers. These plates, with a variable reverb time of up to six seconds, were then tweaked to perfection by Abbey Road's technical engineers. To keep noise to a minimum, EMI's Central Research Laboratories designed unique hybrid solid-state drive amps for Plates A, B and C. Plate D remained fully valve-powered on both drive and output stages, allowing a versatile array of sonic characteristics, from warm and dark to lush and smooth. The plug-in features precise modeling of four legendary Abbey Road plates (EMT 140), each with its unique sonic character, and a drive control to set the THD characteristics of the in/out amplifiers and the plate sheet itself. Waves Audio announces Waves Nx, and Greg Wells MixCentric plug-ins
Waves Audio introduced Waves Nx, a Virtual Mix Room plug-in, and Waves Greg Wells MixCentric plug-in, created in collaboration with engineer Greg Wells (Adele, Katy Perry, OneRepublic). Waves Nx gives you the optimal acoustics of a great mix room -- right inside your headphones. Powered by Waves' Nx technology, this plug-in lets you hear, on headphones, the same natural depth, natural reflections, and panoramic stereo image you would be hearing from speakers in an actual, physical room. The Greg Wells MixCentric plug-in offers a quick solution for putting a finishing touch on your mix. Using EQ, compression and harmonic distortion to process your master buss or groups, it enhances and balances the tonality of your mix. Available separately or as part of the new Greg Wells Signature Series bundle, which also includes the Greg Wells VoiceCentric and Greg Wells PianoCentric plug-ins. [source]
New plug-ins from Softube, Sonnox, and Brainworx for the UAD Platform
Universal Audio announced three new direct developer plug-ins for UAD hardware and Apollo interfaces -- the Brainworx bx_digital V3 EQ Collection, Sonnox Oxford Envolution, and the exclusive Marshall JMP 2203 guitar amplifier. All three plug-ins will be released as part of UAD Software v8.5 in early February 2016. The Marshall JMP 2203 plug-in is an expert emulation of the legendary 100-watt amplifier used by everyone from Iron Maiden and Slayer, to Jeff Beck and My Bloody Valentine. All Marshall plug-ins include UA's Unison technology; Apollo user's guitar pickups will see the exact impedance load as if they're plugged into a vintage Marshall amp -- a feature found only on Apollo audio interfaces. Oxford Envolution is a frequency-dependent envelope shaper that can add presence/distance to drums, piano, guitar, and any other percussive content. With separate transient and sustain sections, the Envolution can radically modify the sound of sources, boosting sustain for added ambience or cutting it for quick, precise gating. And finally, the Brainworx bx_digital V3 EQ Collection is a reimagining of the popular bx_digital V2 EQ plug-in -- a state-of-the-art mastering EQ and M/S (mid/side) processor and indispensable tool for many mixing, mastering, and post-production engineers. The bx_digital V3 EQ adds a Dynamic EQ section, radically updated filters, and a new proportional Q mode to the already powerful M/S capabilities of the plug-in. [source]
