Sony announces three new palm camcorders with 4K HDR recording

Sony XDCAM PXW-Z90 video Sony has announced three new 4K HDR camcorders: the XDCAM PXW-Z90, the NXCAM HXR-NX80 and the Handycam FDR-AX700. Featuring Sony's Fast Hybrid AF system, all three palm camcorders combine a fast and reliable AF function adapted for shooting with a 1.0" stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, delivering excellent image clarity alongside a range of versatile shooting features. The new camcorders all support an instant HDR (High Dynamic Range) workflow, enabling users to produce HDR content with minimum post-production to suit a range of content creation scenarios and applications. EDIUS 9 will support native editing on HDR material, and export contents in HDR for broadcasting and web distribution. Editors can mix SDR and HDR material on the same project, and output results in either color space. Pixar showcased new rendering technologies at SIGGRAPH 2017

Pixar RenderMan Showreel 2017 video Pixar Animation Studios gave a special preview of upcoming technologies at the 2017 RenderMan Art & Science Fair, including new interactive capabilities for RenderMan 22 and work on 'XPU' rendering using CPU+GPU cores together. Demonstrations of RenderMan 21.5, released July 26th, showcased break-through technologies for rendering CGI characters, including state-of-the-art skin and hair based on Path-Traced Subsurface Scattering. Presentations from Pixar and ILM revealed how feature films such as Cars 3, Coco, and Rogue One drive enhancements to RenderMan's core technology. RenderMan 22 will feature 'always-on' rendering embedded in artist applications, responding instantly to geometry, camera, light and material edits. This new live rendering mode delivers interactive frame rates with the same renderer used for batch renders. Other RenderMan 22 technologies like fast vectorized OSL shader network evaluation on Intel scalable-SIMD CPUs were also shown. RenderMan 21.5 is available for download today at renderman.pixar.com. Unique workflows like the plug-in's light mixer technology allows artists to render final quality images and adjust lighting interactively, while the edits are fed back directly to lights or groups of lights in Katana's GafferThree lighting tools. The fully OSL-based shading engine is compatible with both Katana and Maya, allowing for the direct transfer of look development files between these DCC apps.
