DFT empowers Photoshop users with Power Stroke 1.0
[permalink] 01.08.2007

Power Stroke GUI PhotoshopDigital Film Tools (an offshoot of the Digital FilmWorks visual effects facility based in Los Angeles) released a new Photoshop plug-in: Power Stroke. It is based on research and technology by Liron Yatziv and Guillermo Sapiro from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Minnesota (see this web site) and as such allows region-based color correcting operations with an easy to use interface. Instead of meticulously selecting regions or hand-painting masks, regions of interest are isolated by drawing a few simple brush strokes with adjustments then made only in those areas. The plug-in, compatible with Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements for both Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS X 10.4+, is available for $120 US. Before purchase, you can download the demo version, manual and tutorial files here, read the Power Stroke Features leaflet, or see the Selective Re-color tutorial. [source]

AMD announced successful interoperability testing of a next-generation graphics processor with a native DisplayPort 1.1 transmitter. The testing was completed with a Genesis Microchip DisplayPort receiver. DisplayPort is an interface designed to be scalable and allow for true unification of display interfaces. It supports both external connections, such as a display to a PC or TV, as well as embedded interface applications, such as inside a notebook PC. For more information on the technology, visit the Video Electronics Standards Association's (VESA) http://www.displayport.org/ web site... [source]

The Iconix Video HD-RH1 camera used extensively on The Kill Point
[permalink] 01.08.2007

Iconix HD cameraMiniature professional HD-RH1 camera from a Santa Barbara-based manufacturer Iconix Video, was used during the production of Spike TV's new eight-hour drama series The Kill Point. Thanks to its extremely compact design (the camera head, connected to a remote CCU and PSU via cable, is roughly the size of a golf ball and weights about two ounces), the cinematographers were able to capture many POV shots otherwise impossible to do with a standard-sized HD camera (shots inside air ducts, e.g.). The 1/3" 3CCD multi-format camera supports standard SD and HDTV resolutions up to 1080p 60Hz, features SDI, DVI-D, and Analog outputs, 14-bit quantization, programmable gamma and Genlock. Read the Spec Sheet or User Manual for more information. See the list of rental locations here. [source]

mocha to simplify and accelerate the tracking workflow
[permalink] 31.07.2007

Imagineer mochaImagineer Systems announced their new stand-alone tracking station named mocha. It leverages Imagineer's advanced 2.5D planar tracking technology to simplify and significantly accelerate the tracking and rotoscoping workflow for VFX artists. mocha's proprietary Planar Tracking System enables artists to quickly generate accurate corner-pins that can be exported to industry standard compositing and editing systems (such as Inferno, Flame, Flint, Smoke, Combustion, Avid DS, Quantel generationQ, After Effects, Shake and Fusion). Additionally, mocha intelligently tracks and transforms roto splines that can also be exported (mocha is the 'big brother' of motor; it contains all motor's rotoscoping tools). This new approach to tracking and rotoscoping results in highly accurate 2D tracks and mattes of superior quality while requiring far fewer keyframes and adjustment. See the Tutorial videos to learn the basics of the application. Available immediately for Windows, Mac OS and Linux systems and priced at $2,995 for a single node-locked license. [source]

[permalink] 30.07.2007

Nucleo Pro 2 iconGridIron updates its After Effects productivity tool Nucleo Pro. With workflow enhancements like Spec Preview, Spec Render, Commit to Disk, and Background Render, Nucleo Pro allows creative professionals to harness the full power of their multi-processor or multi-core computers. New version, Nucleo Pro 2, expands the possibilities with support for 3D rendering applications (supported are: Autodesk 3ds Max & Maya, MAXON CINEMA 4D, NewTek LightWave 3D, Softimage|XSI, and Apple Shake) in the Background Render Queue and Pre-Composition Proxies (a feature that makes After Effects 'proxying' extremely simple by allowing the addition of a proxy with a single keystroke. Nucleo Pro 2 ($395 US) supports all versions of Adobe After Effects version 7.0 and the new After Effects CS3 Professional on both Windows and Mac OS X platforms. Nucleo Pro 1 customers may upgrade to Nucleo Pro 2 for $99, it is also possible to try before you buy (requires registration). Check out the Feature Tutorials here. [source]
